My path to ceramic art
After a mid-career layoff, I took a break from job hunting and decided to return to an activity my mother introduced me to in my grade school years!
Accustomed to the daily digital grind of a graphic designer, I found the completely analog experience of clay unlocked a new creative energy. At the mercy of the transformation within the kiln – and no “undo key”, I learned to embrace the imperfections and happy accidents that are inevitable with this medium.
While I did eventually return to the workforce, I have continued my explorations with clay, and relish every opportunity to be totally analog in my creative endeavors.
My ceramic art reflects a fascination with the infinite variations of glaze, texture and shape. The geometric formations of man and nature-–from 30,000 feet above–often find their way into my art as I express the journeys, connections and perspective that are constantly evolving throughout one’s life.
